Sweet and Spicy Sesame Chicken

Ingredients

Chicken marinade

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dry sherry
  • ⅛ tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp canola oil
  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast, cut into 1 inch cubes

Sauce

  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp red chili paste
  • 1 tsp minced garlic

Directions

  1. Combine components for marinade in bowl and mix well. Stir in chicken, cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes
  2. Combine sauce ingredients in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil, constantly stirring. Turn heat to low and keep warm, occasionally stirring
  3. Fry marinated chicken in batches until cooked through and golden brown, 3-5 minutes. Drain on paper towel on a plate
  4. Transfer chicken to a bowl and add sauce, Mix together well. Serve on its own or over steamed rice. Top with toasted sesame seeds
