Easy sesame chicken recipe. Serve over plain rice or however you like
Ingredients
Chicken
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 pinch salt and pepper
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp ginger (grated or powder is fine)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (or 2 tsp already minced garlic)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- ½ tbsp cornstarch
Directions
- Cook as much rice as you would like in rice cooker or however you like to cook it
- In a small bowl stir together soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, cornstarch and sesame seeds and set aside
- In a large bowl whisk together the egg, 2 tbsp cornstarch and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cut chicken into small 1 inch pieces and toss in egg and cornstarch mixture
- Add cooking oil to a large skillet and heat over medium. Once the skillet is very hot, swirl so the oil covers the entire surface. Add battered chicken and spread into a single layer
- Cook the chicken pieces until golden brown on the bottom. Carefully flip chicken and break apart into smaller clumps as you flip. Continue to cook until golden brown on other side. Do not stir chicken too much to avoid breaking the egg coating from the chicken
- Once chicken is cooked through and golden brown on all sides, pour sauce over top. Toss chicken to coat in sauce. Continue to stir chicken until sauce has thickened
- Serve over rice
