Chocolate Sheet Pan Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cup flour
  • 2 cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp (heaping) cocoa powder
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 whole beaten eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Icing

  • ¾ cup butter
  • 4 tbsp (heaping) cocoa powder
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cup powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine flour, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl. Melt butter in a sauce pan, add cocoa powder and stir together. Add boiling water and let boil for 30 seconds then turn off heat. Pour over flour mixture and stir lightly to cool
  3. Pour the buttermilk into a measuring cup and add eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Stir mixture into butter/chocolate mixture. Pour into sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes
  4. While cake is baking, make the icing. Melt butter in a saucepan and add cocoa - stirring to combine, then turn off heat. Add milk, vanilla and powdered sugar then stir together. Pour over warm cake
  5. Cut into pieces and enjoy
